BIM Project Engineers provide technical support for document control, cost control, scheduling and coordination of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life/safety trades using BIM and other technologies. They lead virtual coordination sessions with subcontractor detailers, review Revit and Navisworks models for constructability and aesthetics, and work through coordination issues with architects and engineers. The position provides an excellent foundation for future growth in Project Management, Preconstruction, Estimating, and MEP Coordination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following. Other duties may be assigned).

  • Optimize the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) during the estimating, preconstruction, construction and closeout phases.
  • Utilize as-built field survey data as framework for MEP efforts.
  • Use Autodesk Navisworks for BIM model integration and coordination.
  • Distribute and maintain model backgrounds
  • Review and ensure that subcontractor construction models are accurate and complete designs.
  • Ensure that construction geometry is error free.
  • Perform supplemental modeling.
  • Participate in virtual and physical collaboration between project team members during the design, detailing, installation, and closeout phases.
  • Perform clash detection studies and generate reports for the project team.
  • Lead and support subcontractors in their detailing efforts using virtual coordination sessions
  • Keep the coordination process on schedule and request Project Management help when needed
  • Facilitate the exchange and coordination of Building Information Models
  • Run clash detection studies and generate reports for project team
  • Manage access rights and organization of the BIM exchange site
  • Export 2d and 3d geometry from the architectural and structural design models
  • Review and confirm that subcontractors’ construction models are clean, accurate, and complete with respect to the design
  • Set up and lead coordination meetings with the design team
  • Interface with the Project Engineer and field Superintendent for RFIs and submittals needed to support the coordination process
  • Produce models and drawings as necessary for field or project use
  • Assist the Project Manager with cost control and estimating
  • Review and compile all project close-out requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a related field
  • One year of internship or related experience
  • Broad understanding of commercial construction industry
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical data
  • Computer knowledge and advanced skills in BIM software like Autodesk Revit and Navisworks are preferred
  • Strong work ethic / dependability
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong phone presence and the willingness to lead a team of detailers
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and balance / prioritize between multiple tasks
  • Detail-oriented mentality
  • Ability to travel to and work from construction jobsites
