Roche
R6 Laboratory Building Renovation
Palo Alto, California
The Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche has long had a presence in the Silicon Valley, and its Palo Alto laboratories are where some of the company’s most successful drugs were developed. The over-the-counter pain reliever Aleve is just one example. Wanting to improve the quality of its laboratory workspace, Roche has begun a reconstruction of its R6 facility on the Palo Alto campus. The project, which is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2007, encompasses the tear down and rebuilding of private lab spaces originally constructed in 1980 and 1987, consolidating them into a larger open lab area. The Hathaway Dinwiddie Sustainable Team is playing a leading role in this effort. In addition, under the leadership of senior project manager Jodi Soboll, Hathaway Dinwiddie is overseeing an extensive construction waste management program that is significantly increasing re-use of building materials and reducing waste.
- Hathaway Dinwiddie provides recycle and debris boxes.
- All debris is separated and disposed of into the appropriate recycle bin.
- Minimum separation into the following categories: steel, copper, sheetrock, ceiling tiles, concrete, wood, glass and paper/cardboard.
- No debris is taken off site without prior approval by Hathaway-Dinwiddie and Roche Palo Alto, LLC.
- Quantities of refuse are tracked to meet City of Palo Alto Construction & Demolition Recycle Program guidelines.
