We Bring Green Expertise to the TableThe Hathaway Dinwiddie Sustainable Team provides a full range of general contracting, project planning and management services for creating environmentally responsible buildings and spaces. Organized around the principles set out by the U.S. Green Building Council, the team is committed to sustainable site development and materials selection, energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality. Having led or participated in more than a dozen green and LEED-certified projects in recent years, the Hathaway Dinwiddie Sustainable Team has the experience and expertise to guide developers and owners through all phases of green building design and construction. We can also manage the LEED certification submittal process for our clients, and counsel them on securing LEED credits across various credit topics and point values: Building Commissioning: (Fundamental Building Systems and Additional Commissioning) HDCCO has extensive experience with very successful commissioning, including procedures and plans, as well as an experienced MEP group to help with commissioning planning and execution. Both credits require specific language in the contractor documents regarding commissioning requirements; we are completely familiar with the documentation and commissioning process. Building Reuse: In renovation projects, credits are available for reuse of an original building’s Existing Shell, Structural System and Interiors. We can help determine the most effective strategies for building reuse, and assist in carrying out such plans in cost-efficient ways. Construction Waste Management: Hathaway Dinwiddie can assist with two possible credits, involving separation of construction waste (wood, plastic, debris, etc.) and processing through recycling plants instead of garbage dumps. Recycled Content and Local/Regional Materials: We have constructed multiple projects using recycled content and local/regional materials that are manufactured within 500 miles of the site. Construction IAQ Management Plan: The Sustainable Team has created a comprehensive Indoor Air Quality roadmap that includes checklists, procedures, and suggested methods for protecting ductwork, fixtures and other HVAC components from dust and dirt; separating areas during construction to avoid cross-contamination; and sequencing work to protect interior finished areas from exposure to out-gassing during construction. The second credit under this plan is for completing a 100% outside air flush of the HVAC system with new filters in place prior to occupancy. As long as construction schedules allow, this process can be done quite easily. Many of the construction activities involved in this credit are similar to standard procedures used in clean room construction, which we have performed successfully for many well-known clients. Low-Emitting Materials: We are highly experienced in working with architects to specify adhesives and sealants, paints, carpet, and composite woods with low VOC content and no formaldehyde. This credit can earn up to (4) points. |
